iNaturalist App Redesign

iNaturalist is an app used to determine the species of plants and animals through photos and audio recordings, identified by other users, and features a ginormous ecosystem database.
Done with William Carty, Cara Dougherty, and Jakob Elliott.

The main task was to redesign the UX and UI of the app, but we also focused on giving it a clean, scientific, and natural design style to elevate the beautiful plants and animals.

Research Phase

Existing App

Redesign considerations included increasing gutters, implementing more user interactions, and creating a more seamless UX.

Benchmarking

Benchmarking led to conclusions like implementing a follower/following system, an explore page, a gamification/identification streak, and more
streamlined information access.

Personas

Overall, we targeted users who want to learn more about the world around them and get outside more.

Black and White Wireframes

Included a home page, explore, cataloging a find, and a profile. Implemented followers and following, communities, and an ID leaderboard.
