Ludlow Locale

A research-based guide to highlight new experiences, encourage community interaction, and provide navigation for students on Ludlow Avenue in Clifton, OH.
Project completed with Tess Polo.

The Problem:

Ludlow Avenue has a great community with many unique experiences to enrich UC students. Yet, most new to Clifton do not know what Ludlow has to offer because there isn’t a comprehensive resource and these students are hesitant to explore new, unfamiliar areas.
The Solution:

A travel-sized booklet featuring prominent restaurants, shopping, entertainment, and free activities on Ludlow Avenue, containing a map of the entire street and information on each offering.

Research

Exploratory Research methods:

Survey of target audience and expert insights:

“Local businesses living in the neighborhood usually have a vested interest in keeping their businesses attractive and clean, and are likely to support local causes. These are the benefits of social capital--community helps community!”

- Dr. Christopher Auffrey, Urban Planning professor
Generative Research method:

Layout co-creation activity involving target audience organizing page layouts in hierarchy of importance.

Evaluative Research method:

Interviews with Ludlow residents asking opinions on wayfinding and effectiveness.
